This study looks at the uses of the temple metaphor in 1 Cor 3:16-17 and 6:19 inlight of the so-called New Perspective on Paul. The aim of the study is to determine if one's interpretation may be dependent on whether the background material for the temple is taken from the Jewish or Greek-Roman world. The study looks at how the terms temple and holiness were generally understood in those contexts, and if the textual context related to the temple metaphor is dependent on a Jewish or Greek-Roman temple. The results of the study shows that while the terms temple and holiness were more or less equivalent in both contexts, a rhetorical analyze of the textual context of the temple metaphor in 3:16-17 is dependent on Greek-Roman temples, such as those in Corinth..

Swedish students' knowledge of both mathematics and reading comprehension has deteriorated in recent years. Scientists are discussing whether there is a connection between these areas and that the pupils deteriorating math skills may have something to do with their increasingly lower results in terms of reading comprehension. To investigate this possible connection, I conducted a survey among students in ninth grade and have come to the conclusion that the scientists are right: this connection absolutely exist. Students who received a high score on tasks designed to test students' mathematical problem-solving skills, also received high results on the reading comprehension test. And students who received a poor performance on the problem-solving tasks, were also low performers in the reading comprehension test.

AbstractIn this essay I examine the exegetical problems concerning the interpretation of the metaphor ???????????????? in 2 Corinthians 2:14.The regular idea of the metaphor is that the apostle Paul is using the picture of a Roman triumph to describe the apostle?s and his co-worker?s service for God. This includes that God is leading them into many sufferings finished off with a martyr death as the triumph was very painful for its prisoners and mostly ended with an execution. But since A.D 300 such an interpretation has been questioned. Scholars react primarily to the cruelty of it and ask if that really was Paul?s meaning.

This paper aims to explore the possibility of reading the Temple cleansing stories of John and Mark through Bruce J Malina?s honor/shame model, as E. Randolph Richards do. The analysis searches in John?s and Mark?s Temple cleansings for the presence of the notions of honor and shame, as Malina uses those concepts in his model.

I denna litteraturstudie har jag tittat pÄ hur den kristna kyrkans syn pÄ kvinnans hÄr har utvecklats frÄn Paulus dagar in i modern tid. Anledningen till mitt intresse för detta Àmne var min förvÄning dÄ jag upptÀckte att Nya Testamentet innehÄller regler som sÀger att kvinnan ska bÀra huvudbonad. Jag trodde inte att tÀckandet av kvinnans hÄr hörde hemma inom den kristna kyrkan.Syftet med uppsatsen Àr belysa att Första Korintierbrevet varit grundlÀggande för den kristna kyrkans syn pÄ kvinnans hÄr och att detta har kommit att pÄverka kvinnans stÀllning och rörelsefrihet i samhÀllet, Ànda in pÄ 1900-talet. Jag fann att Àven den kristna kyrkan utfÀrdade skriftliga förkunnelser som hade med kvinnans hÄr att göra under det första Ärtusendet. DÀrefter har tolkningar gjorda av denna text varit grundlÀggande dÄ seder skapats som sagt att kvinnan ska tÀcka sitt huvud och hÄr dÄ hon lÀmnade hemmet.

The background to this thesis is the debate of the last decades within exegetics, concerning the so called "New Perspective on Paul". Starting from this discussion, the thesis is aming to investigateand discuss the function of Abraham in Paul's argument in Romans 4. This is achieved by, to start with, a thoroughly examination and analysis of different translations of Romans 4:1. Secondly, by trying how the translation suggested by Richard B. Hays can be motivated using a narrative perspective of interpretation emphazising the context of covenant history of the text, and thirdly, by examin and discuss other interpretations of the text and compare their ability to bring intelligibility to the text.

GĂ„r det att skilja pĂ„ vad som Ă€r omstritt av exegetiska respektive teologiska skĂ€l?Slutsatsen Ă€r att bland tre typer av argumentation som förekommer i litteraturen, som jag kallar den vĂ€rderande, den datainsamlande respektive den konstruktiva, har forskningen en olycklig slagsida mot den första typen. Alltför mycket har skrivits utan att tillföra nĂ„got av varken fakta eller ideer - man refererar bara till tidigare forskning och vĂ€ger olika uppfattningar mot varandra.

This essay is an attempt to study some post-modern theological positions with regard to their growing interest in the use of mystical theology and mysticism in theological research in the academic post-modern world, and to see if the 19th century theologian Albert Schweitzer couldprove a resource for this understanding of mystical theology. This position is known in the essay as ?the mystical turn.?To present the background and understanding of this post-modern view of mystical theology the essay presents three theologians, namely: Andrew Louth, Mark A. McIntosh and Sarah Coakley.These three theologians argue for the use of a contemplative and transforming mysticism as a postmodern epistemology in relation to theological research, with growing concern of the status of theology in the secular and post-modern world. Having made clear the views of these three theologians the essay then presents Albert Schweitzer's view on the mysticism of Paul.

Three main questions give the fundamental structure for this master thesis: 1) In what way is the notion of law being perceived in the following theologians respectively; David P. Scaer, Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Wolfhart Pannenberg? 2) In what way is the notion of law being perceived in the encyclical Veritatis Splendor? 3) Which similarities and divergences can be found in the respective expositions of the notion of law?For the purpose of comparison, I have employed four questions of analysis. These are: A) What is ?the law?? B) Is the law being effected, or is it working, in the world and if so - in what ways and for what purposes is it meant to serve? C) Does human beings have any capacities to understand and/or live in accordance to the law? D) Does the Gospel, perceived as the earthly life, actions, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, effect any alteration with respect to the purpose, range, function or interpretation of the law?In order to better understand Roman-Catholic concepts of law, the treatise on law of Thomas Aquinas Summa Theologica is briefly presented.
